27 new cases in Thailand – the lowest this month

The number of Covid-19 patients in the country increased to 2,792, with 27 new cases confirmed over a 24-hour period – the lowest reported this month – Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman of the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said today (April 20).

After a third successive day without deaths, the number of fatalities remains at 47, while 1,999 patients have recovered and returned to their homes and 746 are undergoing treatment in hospitals.
Today’s new cases offered more proof that the Covid-19 curve in the country might be flattening.
On April 9 there were 54 new cases, 50 on April 10, 45 on April 11, 33 on April 12, 28 on April 13, 34 on April 14, 30 on April 15, 29 on April 16, 28 on April 17, 33 on April 18 and 32 on April 19.
“We cannot be complacent although the number has dropped, but it remains in two digits,” he said.
Taweensin said data showed people in the 20-29 age group to be at a high risk of infection.

The new cases can be divided into four groups:

The first group of 16 came into close contact with others previously confirmed as infected.

The second comprised two people who visited crowded areas.

The third consists of eight, who were under investigation.

The last is one person who returned from the UK and was under state quarantine.

Meanwhile, 71 people have fully recovered and returned home.

As of April 19, the number of confirmed cases in the country stood at 2,792, with 746 undergoing treatment, 1,999 having recovered and been discharged, and 47 deaths.

Globally, there are more than 2.4 million confirmed cases and around 170,000 deaths

Nine provinces haven’t found any confirmed cases so far – Kamphaeng Phet, Chai Nat, Trat, Nan, Bueng Kan, Phichit, Ranong, Sing Buri, and Ang Thong.
