Officials from the Municipality Office and the Social Development Office along with police officers were at hand to ensure people maintained at least a metre’s distance from each other while queuing for the food.
Bangkok governor Aswin Kwanmuang had previously said the city authorities must be informed in advance any time such charitable events are organised, so they can send officials to take care of people.
“We are afraid that if the crowds are not controlled, it may become a hotspot because people are bound to jostle to get ahead for fear the giveaways may run out,” he said.
