Volunteer, 21, killed fighting wildfire

The death of a young man on Wednesday (April 23) has taken to seven the number of lives lost fighting wildfires in the northern region of Thailand.

Sittichai Kongkaewsi-ngam, 21, a resident of Mae Hong Son province, volunteered to help fight the fires that have burned down forests in the North.
He and several volunteers were trying to put out the fire on Wednesday (April 22) but a sudden change in the direction of the wind left Sittichai engulfed in flames at around 3.30pm.
Other firefighters had to wait until 8pm before the fire died down to retrieve his body from the forest. They published his family’s bank account, Lek Kongkaewsi-ngam Krung Thai Bank 529-0-14010-7, to support his family.
