Start of Ramadan in Thailand relies on tonight’s new moon

The start of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan in Thailand will be determined by the moon on Thursday (April 23), the Sheikul Islam Office said in a recent statement
The month of Ramadan starts with the sighting of the new moon, and if it is sighted Thursday night then the month of fasting will begin on Friday, otherwise it will begin on Saturday.
Apart from the Covid-19 related guidelines issued by the government, the Islamic leader also advised his fellow Muslims to be careful and maintain hygiene to prevent the virus from spreading, including not spitting in public.
Also, people have been advised against gathering for prayers and other activities. The statement said further guidelines will be provided once the month of fasting ends
