Top hotel school offers double-degree programme with 3-year completion option

Vatel Thailand, a collaboration between France’s Vatel Hotel and Tourism Business School and Thailand’s Silpakorn University, is accepting applications for bachelors’ in Hotel Management, an international double-degree programme that can be completed in three years.

The curriculum offers a good balance between theory and practice in the form of training at school and at the Vatel Restaurant and Café, said Asst Professor Dr Sompid Kattiyapikul, dean of Silpakorn University’s International College and director of Vatel Thailand.

Most importantly, he said, students will need to complete at least two internships at partner hotel chains in Thailand and overseas.
“This is a great opportunity for Asian students to participate in an internationally recognised programme close to home,” Sompid said. “This is a challenging year from global tourism, but international hotel chains are continuing to expand in Asia, so it’s important to study the right courses to cope with the dynamic demands of the profession once things return to normal.”

Vatel, established in France in 1981 by Alain Sebban, has 51 branches across the world and gives students the opportunity to participate in the Marco Polo exchange programme. Since 2003, more than 1,500 students have graduated from Vatel Thailand.

The theory, all taught in English by international teachers, covers everything from hotel entrepreneurship and innovation, hospitality in the 21st century, marketing, and business planning, to the international tourism economy, human resources, cross-cultural management, and service psychology.
The students can also study Chinese and French.

Upon completion, students receive two internationally accredited degrees from Vatel and Silpakorn University, and those who want to start working quickly can complete the programme in three years instead of four.

More than 35,000 “Vateliens” can be found working in management in five-star hotels across the world.
Applications are open until July 31 for the programme starting on August 31. Scholarships are also available.
