Three new cases, no new deaths keeps Thailand on path to recovery

Thailand maintained its single-digit daily count with just three coronavirus cases confirmed over the past 24 hours, Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman of the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), said on Thursday (May 7). No new deaths from the disease were reported.

The total number of Covid-19 cases since the outbreak began in January climbed to 2,992.

The three new cases comprise a 59-year-old woman who tested positive during the Covid-19 detection programme in Yala, and two aged 46 and 51 who had just returned from Kazakhstan and were in state quarantine.

Meanwhile, 11 Covid-19 cases recovered and returned home, bringing the recovery percentage to 92.65.
Of the total 2,992 confirmed cases since January, 165 remain under treatment, 2,772 have recovered and been discharged, and 55 have died.

Globally, there have been more than 3.75 million confirmed cases and around 263,000 deaths.

Chiang Mai, Phitsanulok, Lampang, Chaiyaphum, and Trang have now joined the group of provinces where no new case has been reported in the last 28 days.

Taweesin also revealed that Prime minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has expressed satisfaction with the statistics after the government relaxed lockdown restrictions on May 3. However, the CCSA would continue to monitor the situation closely while people should maintain hygiene practices and social distancing. The decision on whether to enter the second phase of partial lockdown would depend on the rate of new Covid-19 infections, he added.
