Neighbours watch helplessly as elderly woman jumps from condo
A 77-year-old woman was seen perching on the balcony of her Bangkok condominium before she jumped to her death around 6am on Thursday (May 7).
Neighbours spotted the woman on the 10th floor of the 15-storey apartment building near Chaeng Watthana Road.
Police found the victim’s body in the car park and went to collect evidence from her room before sending the remains for forensic investigation at Bhumibol Adulyadej Hospital.
The apartment was also home to a relative, who told police the victim had let her stay because she had no other family.
She said the victim had remained in her room during the Covid-19 lockdown and had not seen anyone.
When the relative left for work, neighbours noticed the victim sitting on the balcony before watching in horror as she threw herself to the ground.
Police suspect she may have become distressed during the pandemic lockdown, but will investigate further before filing a report.
