Ten million farmers to benefit as Bt5,000 handout starts tomorrow

Disbursement of government cash handouts to farmers affected by the Covid-19 situation will begin on Friday (May 15).

The Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) expects to transfer the money to 1 million approved households per day, Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Chalermchai Sri-on said on Wednesday.
The ministry’s cash handout programme aims to provide farmers Bt15,000 per household, to be paid in three monthly instalments. The scheme expects to cover a maximum of 10 million households with a budget of Bt150 billion. The campaign is similar to the Ministry of Finance’s cash handout campaign -- also known as "Rao Mai Thing Gun" (We do not leave anyone behind) -- to self-employed people affected by the Covid-19 outbreak.
“Farmers who had previously registered with the ministry can check their approval status at www.เยียวยาเกษตรกร.com [Help the farmers],” said Chalermchai. “In case the approved registrants do not have a BAAC account, they can also choose to receive money via their account in other banks through the website. Please make sure to input the correct ID card number, telephone number and the bank account number.”
Chalermchai added that the Office of Agricultural Economics had already transferred the first instalment amounting to Bt25 billion to the BAAC on Wednesday (May 13), while the next batch will be transferred on May 20. “The BAAC will receive Bt25 billion every week six times, therefore the disbursement to farmers at 1 million households per day should be continuous with no problem,” he added.
“The ministry has also coordinated with the Ministry of Finance to make sure that approved applicants are not overlapping with those already approved for handouts in the Rao Mai Thing Gun scheme,” Chalermchai said.
