Satun gets first sharing pantry as nationwide relief effort sweeps south
Satun Governor Weeranan Phenjan instructed all districts of the southern province to set up free community pantries, after locals contacted government agencies for help amid the Covid-19 crisis.
On Thursday (May 14), Kochem Menhem, deputy director of Satun Primary Educational Service Area Office, presided over the opening of a community pantry in front of Sincharoen shop opposite Sinkiat Hotel in Muang district.
The pantry cabinet was stocked with food and other necessities donated by the Satun media association, Sincharoen shop and generous members of the public.
People suffering the impacts of the pandemic and lockdown then queued to select goods from the cabinet, especially rice, oil and sugar.
“People can take items inside the cabinet from 8am to 6pm, while kind-hearted people can add items anytime,” Kochem said.
