Govt opens two-month window to let Myanmar workers return home

Govt opens two-month window to let Myanmar workers return home

Myanmar workers stranded in Thailand will be able to travel from Bangkok to Tak province between May 22 to July 20, to facilitate their return to their motherland across the border in Tak.

The arrangement was finalised after the Transport Company held a meeting with the deputy permanent secretary of Foreign Affairs and representatives from Myanamar Embassy and other relevant agencies.
The buses will leave the Bangkok Bus Terminal (Chatuchak) at 10pm and 11pm to Mae Sot Bus Terminal located in Tak. The buses will carry only 210 passengers a day and the returnees will be those who have informed the embassy before of their intention to return to Myanmar.
The embassy will issue travel certificates to the returnees, which they must take to the bus terminal while a permission document for travelling in curfew time will be issued by the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters.
The Transport Company said that the temperature of all Myanmar passengers will be checked before they take the buses. Also, the returnees will be ordered to wear medical masks and maintain a one-metre distance in the bus.
