Two new Covid-19 Thai patients in state quarantine had returned from abroad

There were three new cases of Covid-19 over a 24-hour period, taking total confirmed cases to 3,040 since the outbreak, Dr Panprapa Yongtrakul, assistant spokeswoman of the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said on Saturday (May 23).

Meanwhile, six more people have fully recovered and returned home, taking the recovery total to 2,916 people. The number of fatalities is unchanged at 56.
Two of the new cases were Thai nationals found infected in a state quarantine facility; the first one was a student who had returned from Egypt and the other a spa staff from India. Another confirmed patient was an Italian man living in Phuket.
Panprapa said a total of 104 cases were found in state quarantine, the great majority being men. Most of the infected returnees had flown back from Indonesia, Pakistan and Kazakhstan.
Globally, cumulative cases have passed 5 million with around 340,000 deaths. Most of the new patients were found in the US, while India was the Asian country with the most number of cases were found in 24 hours..
Meanwhile, CCSA spokesman Taweesin Visanuyothin clarified that the government had not sent any officials to talk to hotel operators, seeking to use their hotels as state quarantine facilities in exchange for money, as reported recently. He said those who had knowledge of such illegal action should report the matter to the government.
