Those rejected for cash handouts may get aid under additional scheme

The Social Development and Human Security Ministry is set to propose to the Cabinet a campaign to help “vulnerable” people who were not approved for the Finance Ministry’s “Rao Mai Thing Gun” (We Do Not Leave Anyone Behind) cash handout programme or the Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry’s campaign that is helping farmers.

Both campaigns provide Bt5,000 cash per month for three months to people whose livelihoods have been affected by the Covid-19 crisis. Qualified candidates must be either self-employed or farmers and not under Social Security.
“The proposed campaign will use a budget of Bt30 billion and is expected to help 13 million people in vulnerable groups, which include elders, the disabled and [parents of] newborn infants,” ministry permanent secretary Poramethee Wimolsiri said. “The ministry will make this proposal to the Cabinet today [May 26].”
Meanwhile, Fiscal Policy Office director-general Lavaron Sangsnit said he had asked the Social Development Ministry to submit the list of people in these vulnerable groups to the committee to speed up the process.
“We will coordinate with the Finance and Agriculture ministries and the Social Security Office to screen all candidates to make sure there is no overlap with other aid campaigns,” he added.
