WHO halts hydroxychloroquine trial

The World Health Organisation (WHO) announced that it is temporarily suspending clinical trials of hydroxychloroquine as a potential treatment for Covid-19.

The Lancet medical journal last week suggested the drug could increase the risk of death among Covid-19 patients, WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Monday.
Top executives of the Solidarity Trial, in which hundreds of hospitals across the world have registered patients to test several possible treatments for coronavirus, has suspended hydroxychloroquine drug tests.
“The Executive Group has implemented a temporary pause of hydroxychloroquine testing under the Solidarity Trial while data is being reviewed by the Data Safety Monitoring Board,” Tedros added. “Other tests are continuing.”
