DNA test confirms alleged child-poisoner is mother of victim

A DNA test on a woman accused of poisoning her own son in a scam to attract donations has confirmed that she is the biological mother of the child.

Test results back today (May 26) revealed that “Im Boon”, aged 2, is the biological son of Nittha Wongwan, 29, also known as "Mama Pook".
Tests on chemicals thought to have been ingested by Im Boon before he became ill with burnt lips and digestive tract will be completed within this week. Police say she forced her son to consume the chemicals in an attempt to scam money from members of the public.
Nittha posted photos online of her son vomiting blood, and claimed he had contracted a mystery illness. In response she received more than Bt10 million in donations from concerned netizens, which she said would pay for the boy’s treatment.
She was arrested on May 22 on charges of taking custody of a child to exploit it for her own benefit, attempted murder, potential fatal assault, and fraud. She is believed to be suffering from mental illness.
In 2017, Nittha adopted another child, "Om Yim", 4, who died after suffering symptoms similar to those found in Im Boon.
Im Boom is now recovering in the care of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security.
