Auto parts maker enters mask-manufacturing sectora
Eastern Polymer Group (EPG), the producer of insulation systems, automobile parts and accessories as well as plastic packaging, will invest Bt30 million for the production of 30 million medical masks per year.
The company said in the first phase, 2 million ordinary medical masks will be produced by July. The second phase will include the manufacturing of N95 masks.
Pawat Vitoorapakorn, the chief executive officer, said EPG produced and sold around 300,000 masks under the brand “EP-KARE” in May.
The masks produced this year, he said, will be sold domestically before EPG looks into selling overseas, especially in underdeveloped countries where vaccines will be difficult to find.
EPG also plans to spend between Bt60 million and Bt100 million to build another mask factory in 2021.
It believes the mask industry will grow even after the Covid-19 situation is resolved because people will start fearing infections.
