Muang Nakhon Phanom Police Station superintendent Worapetch Petchborom, together with the deputy superintendent, on Friday (May 29) arrested Weerachai, 52, for allegedly raping his 15-year-old niece.
On May 16, Nangnoi, the girl’s mother, reported to police that her daughter has been raped by her uncle for three years, since she was in grade seven of her school.
“The man committed the crime when no one was around, and warned the girl that she will not be able to study in the school if she spoke about his actions to other people,” police quoted the victim's mother as saying.
The alleged crime was uncovered on May 16 when the girl talked online with her grandmother in Nakhon Ratchasima. Weerachai thought his niece was talking with her boyfriend, and made some sounds of disapproval.
When the grandmother questioned the girl about the noises in the background, the girl let slip that he had done much more to her than that. On being probed, the victim told her grandmother about the alleged rape. When the girl's mother came to know about it, she immediately filed a case against her brother.
Medical tests showed the girl had been raped. Initially, the suspect denied the accusations.
