SME Bank has no agents that can fast track loans: president

SME Bank has no agents that can fast track loans: president

The Small and Medium Enterprise Development Bank of Thailand (SME Bank) is calling on businessowners to not fall for so-called agents who claim they can help them attain soft loans under the bank’s “SMEs One” campaign.

The campaign, offering loans at 1 per cent interest rate for up to seven years with a 12-month grace period, was launched by the bank to help small businesses affected by the Covid-19 crisis.
"Since its launch on June 1, many businessowners have expressed interest in applying for the loan. However, there are also reports of certain individuals who claim they are agents of the bank and can fast-track the loan for a small fee,” SME Bank president Nartnaree Rathapat said on Thursday (June 4).
“SME Bank insists there is no application fees for loans offered under the ‘SMEs One’ campaign and the bank does not have any policy of doing business via agents,” she said. “We also do not grant special treatment to anybody when considering loans. Hence, do not believe anybody who claims they can guarantee you a loan.”
Loans can be taken under the SMEs One scheme by both individuals and juristic entities in the manufacturing, service, trading, tourism and other related industries that have been affected by the crisis.
Individual customers can seek loans of up to Bt500,000, while juristic entities can seek up to Bt3 million. Both require guarantors and prior registration with the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion at https://members.sme.go.th/newportal/
Nartnaree added that as of Thursday, 1,458 persons had submitted their applications for loans totalling more than Bt2.75 billion.
“The process will be handled on a first-come-first-served basis until the funds allocated for the loans are finished.”
