Phatthalung prison allows visitors after putting Covid-19 safeguards in place
Phatthalung provincial prison reopened for visitors on Thursday (June 4) after being closed for nearly two months as part of government measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
“Relatives of inmates are allowed to book a visit from June 4 onwards,” said prison warden Thornthan Buaking. “The reservation must be made online and four persons will be allowed to meet with the prisoners in each round of visit, which will last 15 minutes.”
The prison will allow a maximum of 24 rounds of visitors per day, meaning only 96 persons can visit the prisoners each day. The schedule was now fully booked until the end of June, the warden said.
The visiting areas were fitted with clear plastic partitions while every altetnate booth will be left empty to maintain social distancing practices. All visitors must pass the screening process via thermal scanners, wear a face mask and clean their hands with alcohol hand sanitisers.
“We also allow relatives to communicate with prisoners via Line application or e-mail to reduce crowding in the prison visiting areas,” Thornthan added.
