Strict safety measures put in place for entrance exams this weekend

The Office of Basic Education Commission (Obec) has instructed institutes holding entrance examinations for Mathayom 1 and Mathayom 4 students this weekend (June 6-7) to strictly observe safety measures to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration [CCSA] had given the okay for Obec to hold entrance exams for students in Mathayom 1 [lower-secondary] and Mathayom 4 [higher secondary] levels for the 2020 academic year on June 6 and 7 at selected venues,” Amnat Witchayanuwat, Obec’s secretary-general, said on Friday (June 5).
“We have ordered the relevant institutes to strictly adhere to social distancing practices and measures announced by the Public Health Ministry to ensure the safety of students and exam staff.”
As per specifications, each exam room can accommodate no more than 20 students, seated 1.5 to 2 metres apart.
“Parents have been notified of the exam schedules as well as the map of each institute showing when and where they can drop off and pick up their children,” Amnat added. “All test takers and staff must wear a face mask at all times, while a screening checkpoint will be set up at all exam rooms equipped with thermal scanners and alcohol gel dispensers.
“Furthermore, the exam room and desks will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before the exam.
“Obec has also ordered that the exam be concluded within half a day to minimise the risk of Covid-19 spreading from students gathering. Those who finish the test must leave the premises immediately,” added Amnat.
