Trang gears up for tourist invasion with six cultural routes

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has prepared six tourist routes in Trang has to serve visitors travelling to the southern holiday province under the government’s stimulus packages.

The government is launching two packages to stimulate domestic tourism – Tyo Pan Suk (Travelling and Sharing Happiness) and Kom Lung Jai (Encouragement).
The first will hand out up to four million digital vouchers for interprovincial travel. The vouchers can be shown at hotel check-in for discounts on accommodation of up to Bt2,000-Bt3,000 per person, which will be transferred back to the holder’s account. Online registration for the vouchers is open to people aged 18 and above.
The Kom Lung Jai (Encouragement) package will reward 1.2 million front-line health and other personnel for battling the Covid-19 outbreak.
Ladawan Chauchat, the local TAT director for Trang, said that her organisation has prepared the six tourism routes to promote local food, attractions and experience. Activities in each trip will consist of visiting natural attractions and temples and tasting local food and coffee.
Trang Tourist Association chairman, Thawat Poyen, said that local tourist businesses are ready to serve visitors who take advantage of the packages.
However, tourists will not be allowed to visit Hat Chao Mai National Park, which is closed until September 30.
“There will be opportunities for tourists to see Trang’s other attractions, as well as our historical sites and culture,” he added.
Thawat said that small hotels in Trang were the first to reopen. “This is low season and foreign visitors have not yet returned to Thailand. Small businesses will be the first ones to reopen, while large hotels remain closed while they monitor the tourist situation,” he explained.
