Phuket International Airport has been given the green light to reopen on Saturday (June 13) by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT). The permission takes effect at 12.01am on June 13.

CAAT said the move is in line with the improved Covid-19 situation.

Phuket Airport was set to resume operations on May 16, before the CAAT scrapped the plan, citing the lingering risk of new infections.

The government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration announced on Friday (June 12) that four new cases of Covid-19 had been recorded over the previous 24 hours. All four were returnees from India who were in state quarantine in Chonburi province. There have been no domestic cases for the last 18 days.

The centre today also approved ending the curfew. The 11pm-3am curfew will be lifted from Monday (June 15), but the state of emergency will remain in place.
