Students adjust to the new normal as schools reopen
Students were seen queuing up on Wednesday (July 1) to have their temperature checked as they got ready for class on the first day of semester at Khon Kaen University’s demonstration primary school.
Teachers and staff members of Primary Care Unit 123 were also at hand to advise the youngsters on how they can protect themselves from infection.
Morning assembly was held in classrooms, and classes were split during lunch break, with some students allowed to eat in the cafeteria and others being made to eat at their desks in a bid to reduce congestion.
Students who wanted to play during lunch break had to seek permission from their class teacher. The school is also having 50 per cent of the students study at home, and 50 per cent to attend classes.
In addition, the day ended at different times for students at different levels, for instance, Primary 1 students were made to go home before school was out for Prathom 2 to Prathom 6 students.
Asst Professor Dr Sarawut Jakpeng, deputy school director, said students and parents are accepting the “new normal” in school. Under the new normal, parents are not allowed to see their children to the classroom, except for Prathom 1 students, whose parents can see them till the classroom for the first two weeks of the semester.
“Before reopening, the staff made preparations for dealing with Covid-19, and today we have taken a survey on parents’ and students’ health information,” he said.
Asst Professor Dr Warisara Luweera, adviser of Primary Care Unit 123, said students will be made to go home if they show any symptoms. “The school has also arrange the desks to enable social distancing and teachers have been instructed to monitor their students closely,” she said.
