No written, driving tests needed to extend licences for now

People wishing to renew their driver’s licence will not be required to undergo written and driving tests until the Covid-19 situation comes to an end.

The Royal Gazette website published the Department of Land Transport’s new regulations on Wednesday (July 1).
The new rules, signed by the department’s director general Jirut Wisanjit, said mandatory written and driving tests have been cancelled for people whose licence has expired as per the following:
• The holder of a licence that has expired more than one year but not exceeding three years between March 31 and September 30, 2020, will not be required to take a written test;
• The holder of a licence that has expired for more than three years between March 31 and September 30, 2020, will not be required to take a driving test.
These regulations have been in effect since June 8.
The reason cited for this cancellation of tests is to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and to help those who have not been able to renew their driving licence due to lockdown measures.
