Summer storms batter eight provinces

Southwest monsoon winds across the Andaman Sea have been bringing summer storms to the provinces of Phayao, Lampang, Lamphun, Nong Khai, Khon Kaen, Chachoengsao, Phatthalung and Songkhla since June 22.

So far, 292 households in 12 districts have sustained damages from the storms, Chayapol Thitisak, director general of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, reported on Thursday (July 2).

Of the households damaged, 96 are in Lamphun province, while one person was killed and two injured in the province of Songkhla.

Provincial authorities, soldiers and officials from related agencies have been distributing food and basic necessities, as well as helping repair homes in the affected areas.
