Weakening monsoon to bring less rain across the country

The weak southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and Thailand will reduce rainfall across the country, the Thailand Meteorological Department has forecast.

The forecast for different parts of the country:

Bangkok: Cloudy with isolated thundershowers; minimum temperature of 25-28 degrees Celsius; maximum 34-37°C; southwesterly winds 10-25kph.

North: Cloudy with scattered thundershowers mostly in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Phetchabun, Kamphaeng Phet and Tak provinces; minimum temperature 24-27°C, maximum 33-37°C; southwesterly winds 10-20kph.

Northeast: Cloudy with isolated thundershowers mostly in Loei, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Sakhon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, Ubon Ratchathani, Si Sa Ket, Surin, Buri Ram and Nakhon Ratchasima provinces; minimum temperature 23-26°C, maximum 34-36°C; southwesterly winds 10-20kph.

Central: Cloudy with isolated thundershowers mostly in Ratchaburi, Suphan Buri, Kanchanaburi, Uthai Thani, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, and Samut Songkhram provinces; minimum temperature 24-25°C, maximum 35-37°C; southwesterly winds 10-20kph.

East: Cloudy with scattered thundershowers in Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat provinces; minimum temperature 24-27°C, maximum 33-36°C; zouthwesterly winds 15-30kph. Waves about a metre high and 1-2 metres in thundershower areas.

South (East Coast): Cloudy with isolated thundershowers mostly in Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat provinces; minimum temperature 24-26°C, maximum 32-35°C; southwesterly winds 10-30kph; waves less than a metre high and around one metre in thundershower areas.

South (west coast): Cloudy with scattered thundershowers mostly in Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun provinces; minimum temperature 23-25°C, maximum 32-34°C; southwesterly winds 15-30kph; waves around a metre high and 1-2 metres in thundershowers areas.

Forecast for next seven days

On July 18-19, the weakening southwest monsoon prevailing over the Andaman Sea and Thailand bring less rain to upper Thailand. From July 20-23, more rains are forecast over Thailand with isolated heavy showers in some areas.

From July 20-24, people in the North, the East and the South should beware of severe weather conditions, the department said.
