Ruling party MP tells people to subsitute pork with chicken to tackle price rise

A Phalang Pracharat Party member of Parliament has advised people to consume chicken instead of pork, as the latter’s price has been increasing.

Chaiyaphum MP Samrit Thansap has visited several markets, where people are complaining about the increased price of pork.
The MP said that the price had possibly gone up due to increase in demand.
Since numerous people have received cash handouts from the government amid the coronavirus crisis, and schools nationwide reopened this month, therefore the sellers are jacking up the price of pork taking advantage of the situation, he explained.
The MP also quoted the statistics that Thailand produced around 20 million pigs a year, and only 10 per cent was for export. So, the increased price this time was not related to export.
“I would recommend that people consume chicken instead of pork, if pork continues to be sold at expensive rate,” he said, adding that chicken was much cheaper than pork and its protein level was not much different.
