Ministers handed caretaker roles after Cabinet resignations

The Cabinet today assigned existing ministers to temporarily oversee posts left vacant by the resignation of ministers.

Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam will fill in as deputy PM and also oversee the Energy Ministry after Somkid Jatusripitak’s resignation, while Minister of Social Development and Human Security Juti Krairiksh will oversee the Labour Ministry, said government spokeswoman Traisulee Traisoranakul.
Deputy PM Prawit Wongsuwan will helm the PM Office's Ministry.
Deputy Finance Minister Santi Promphat takes temporary charge at the Finance Ministry.
Education Minister Nataphol Teepsuwan will oversee the Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Ministry.
Meanwhile, a Cabinet reshuffle would be completed as soon as possible, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said today.
On July 16, deputy PM Somkid Jatusripitak, finance minister Uttama Savanayana, energy minister Sontirat Sontijirawong, minister of higher education, science, research and innovation Suvit Maesincee and Kobsak Pootrakool, deputy secretary-general to the PM for political affairs, resigned with immediate effect.
Meanwhile, Chart Pattana Party leader Tewan Liptapanlop yesterday stepped down from his post as Prime Minister’s Office minister, saying he was resigning so that “the prime minister can reshuffle the Cabinet freely and without any worries”.

In a related matter, ruling Palang Pracharat Party MPs have reportedly selected Industry Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit as their candidate to become new Energy minister after Sontirat Sontijirawong resigned from the post.
The selection was made under the party’s Cabinet quota, ahead of a ministerial reshuffle.
The party also selected its secretary general Anucha Nakasai to helm the Industry Minister and government spokeswoman Narumon Pinyosinwat for PM Office Minister.
The party will propose the list to Prayut, pending approval of the candidates by the party's executive leadership.
