E-vehicle charging station operators forge nationwide network

E-vehicle charging station operators forge nationwide network

A nationwide consortium of charging stations with standardised costs for e-vehicles will begin operating before the end of the year. The consortium is a collaboration between 11 charging service station operators and government agencies under the Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand (EVAT).

EVAT president Yotsaphong La-Nuan oversaw the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the charging network with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), PTT, Evolt Technology, Gridwice (Thailand), Mahanakorn Energy, GLT Green (Thailand), Chosen Energy, and Fifth Element.
The collaboration aims to boost the number of electric vehicles in Thailand, which currently stands at just over 172,000 according to Land Transport Department data, with 1,854 charging points available at filling stations around the country.

The MOU features three objectives for government-private sector collaboration to expand the charging network.
1. Standardised system for all e-vehicles.
2. Universal payment via cards or QR code.
3. Universal payment system that manages revenue and expenses fairly for all consortium members.

The Energy Regulatory Commission and the National Energy Policy Council have approved guidelines and set the price of electricity at charging stations at the general consumer's off-peak rate of Bt2.6369 per unit (for voltage less than 22kV)
The consortium runs more than 100 electric vehicle charging stations nationwide.
