Six new Covid-19 cases in state quarantine

There were six new cases over a 24-hour period, the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said on Friday (July 31). It was the 67th day without a domestic case since May.

Of the new cases, five had returned from Eygpt -- four students were asymptomatric and a 28-year-old had fever and experienced difficulty in breathing. A 52-year-old cruise chef from the Netherlands was asymptomatic, CCSA spokesman Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin said.
Meanwhile, 14 people have fully recovered and been discharged from hospitals.

As of July 31, the total number of confirmed cases in the country stood at 3,310 (373 in state quarantine) -- 127 are under treatment, 3,125 have recovered and been discharged, and there have been 58 deaths.

Globally, the total number of confirmed cases stood at 17.4 million, up by 288,000 on Thursday, 10.9 million have recovered while deaths stood at 676,000. Thailand’s rank dropped to 107th among countries with the most number of cases. The US held the highest number (4.63 million), followed by Brazil (2.6 million) and India (1.6 million).

The global death rate from this disease is now at 3.9 per cent.

The CCSA expressed concern about the virus situation in Asia, as many countries that had achieved zero cases, such as China, Vietnam, etc, were now reporting increasing number of cases in two or three digits without being able to find the source of the outbreak.
