Social Plus System, which runs a Thai-language travel website (เกาะ-เสม็ด.com/), believes that tourists will return to Thailand once the Covid-19 crisis is resolved.

Karn Tantichavalit, the company’s managing director, said 62 per cent of those who visit Thailand are return tourists, while only 20 per cent are first-time visitors.

He also said that Koh Samet was the most preferred destination for more than 80 per cent of local travellers because it is easy to get to.

Karn added that most locals will prefer to travel within the country instead of going overseas after international skies open due to their concerns about Covid-19.

He also predicted that 70-per-cent more revenue will be generated in the tourism sector this year if the crisis is completely resolved, adding that though the tourism sector has been hit severely by the outbreak, it has also helped natural attractions recover.
