The Thailand Meteorological Department said on Tuesday (August 4) that the monsoon trough lies across the upper North into a low-pressure cell over upper Vietnam, while a strong southwest monsoon prevails over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf.

Isolated heavy to very heavy rains are likely in many areas of the North, the Northeast, the Central, the East and the South.

People in these areas should beware of severe conditions and stay tuned for weather updates, the department said. Waves in the Andaman Sea could rise 2-4 metres and 2-3 metres in the Gulf and above four metres high in thundershower areas. All ships should proceed with caution and small boats should stay ashore, the department advised.

The department also said that the category 5 typhoon, “Hagupit”, will make landfall over Zhejiang, China by Tuesday, with no effect on Thailand.
