Isolated heavy rain forecast for most parts of Thailand

Isolated heavy rains are likely over the North, the Central, the East and the South of the country, the Thailand Meteorological Department forecast on Tuesday (August 11), while asking people in these areas to beware of the severe weather conditions.

A moderate southwest monsoon lies across the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand while the low-pressure cell covers upper Vietnam, the department said.

The department also said the category 3 tropical storm “Mekkhala” over the upper South China Sea is developing into a category 4 severe tropical storm. It is expected to make landfall in China today and dissipate over the land with no effect on Thailand.

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours:

Bangkok and surrounding areas: Mostly cloudy with thundershowers in 40 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 24-28°C, highs of 33-36°C.

North: Mostly cloudy with thundershowers in 40 per cent of the areas and isolated heavy rains; temperature lows of 24-27 degrees Celsius and highs of 32-36°C.

Northeast: Mostly cloudy with thundershowers in 40 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 24-26°C and highs of 31-35°C.

Central: Mostly cloudy with thundershowers in 40 per cent of the areas and isolated heavy rains; temperature lows of 24-26°C, highs of 32-36°C.

East: Mostly cloudy with thundershowers in 60 per cent of the areas and isolated heavy rains; temperature lows of 24-27°C, highs of 30-34°C; waves two metres high and over two metres during thundershowers.

South (east coast): Mostly cloudy with thundershowers in 40 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 25-27°C, highs of 31-34°C; waves 1-2 metres high and two metres during thundershowers.

South (west coast): Mostly cloudy with thundershowers in 60 per cent of the areas and isolated heavy rains; temperature lows of 24-26°C, highs of 29-34°C; waves 1-2 metres high and over two metres during thundershowers.
