Edible treats for mums on Mother’s Day
Since jasmine flowers are particularly expensive this year, many people are opting to express their love for their mum with edible flowers encased in a special jelly cake.
Dararat Poonpanit, 53, the owner of an eatery-cum-cake-shop in Satun’s Muang district, said her shop takes orders for jelly cakes on special occasions like New Year’s Day, Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, adding that this is the second year running that people have put in orders for Mother’s Day jelly cakes.
“The Mother’s Day jelly cakes come in three shapes – heart, round and oval. The heart shape one, which comes in blue representing Friday, the day Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother was born, has proved to be the most popular. The price of these jelly cakes ranges between Bt150 and Bt300.
“Today [August 11] is the last day we are accepting orders because all cakes have to be delivered tomorrow [Mother’s Day],” she added.
