Thai workers from Uzbekistan return home

Thai workers from Uzbekistan return home

Some 94 Thai workers in Uzbekistan have returned home after their employment contracts expired in July.

The 94 touched down at Suvarnabhumi Airport at approximately 4am today.

The group travelled to Uzbekistan last year to work with a private company through a recruitment agency and under a 1-year employment contract that expired in July 2020.

When their contracts ended, the employer could not send the workers back immediately as the Uzbekistan government banned people from leaving or flying out of the country until July 31 due to the Covid-19 scourge.

The workers then took to Facebook to appeal for Thai government assistance.

Labour Ministry deputy permanent secretary Theanrat Nawamawat said the workers are members of the Job Seekers Fund, so assistance will be provided to them in accordance with the rules.
