Police push for Arnon’s bail to be revoked

Police push for Arnon’s bail to be revoked

Investigators from the Samranrat Police Station in Bangkok reportedly called on the Criminal Court on Thursday (August 13) to demand a revocation of bail release granted to human rights lawyer Arnon Nampa and Eastern Youth for Democracy member Phanuphong Chatnok.

The reason cited for the demand was that they had both breached their bail conditions.
The court has accepted the request and will hear the case on September 3.
On August 8, police had sought court permission to detain them both pending completion of investigation after charging them on seven counts.
The charges were provoking unrest, holding an illegal gathering of more than 10 people to hold activities that caused unrest, holding activities that exposed the public to a contagion, blocking public path, obstructing traffic, placing objects on streets and using loudspeakers without prior approval.
They were released on bail the same day on condition that they do not repeat the alleged offences. However, Arnon spoke up publicly later saying he did not incite unrest and that the government should listen to those with different opinions.
Arnon is one of the key figures leading anti-government protests since July 18, while Phanuphong had held up a placard protesting against Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha during his visit to Rayong.
