Thailand urged to use US-China battle to its advantage
Deputy House Speaker Suchart Tancharoen said that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s campaign against US-made products is a great opportunity for Thailand to accelerate the development of the electric vehicle (EV) industry so it can meet the needs of the Chinese market.
He said the Energy Regulatory Commission should support this industry especially since the automotive industry is shifting from internal combustion systems to full-fledged EV engines. He said he was personally ready to drive the strategy, be it in relation to revising relevant laws such as taxation or the disposal of old cars.
“Thailand should quickly issue laws to accommodate industry changes that help reduce pollution, especially PM2.5 particles in the air. Electric vehicles will play a key role in solving such problems. It will also help Thailand not lose the opportunity of entering the Chinese market,” Suchart added.
