Govt creates over 90,000 jobs to deal with unemployment caused by pandemic

Minister of Labour Suchart Chomklin said that he had ordered the department to prepare vacant positions both at home and overseas for those who are unemployed due to the Covid-19 outbreak to kick-start the economy.
“The department has prepared 91,444 vacant positions, of which 42,367 are domestic jobs mostly in the Eastern Economic Corridor [EEC] projects in Rayong, Chonburi and Chachoengsao provinces with required qualifications ranging from elementary school graduate to bachelor’s degree holder,” he said. “The rest 49,077 positions are overseas jobs in countries where the Covid-19 situation has started to improve, such as Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and Israel.”
“To solve the unemployment problem, the government has also ordered related ministries to increase the hiring of both permanent and part-time staff, such as at the ministries of Higher Education, Natural Resources and Environment, and Agriculture and Cooperatives. As for the Ministry of Labour, we have set aside a budget for fiscal year 2021 to hire an additional 30,000 people,” added Suchart.
Statistics from the Department of Employment reveals that the 10 most sought after positions among domestic employers are: manufacturing labour, general labour, gemstone and ornament maker, sales representative, retail sales staff, product delivery staff, product presenter, driver, warehouse staff, and security guard.
