Nation TV clarifies its stance in relation to field reporter's decision

Dear sponsors and viewers, Based on social-media comments, especially in relation to the #แบนสปอนเซอร์เนชั่น or ban Nation’s sponsors hashtag that was launched after the channel covered the Sunday (August 16) demonstration led by Free People, Nation TV would like to clarify the following points:

1. Since Nation TV is a “news channel”, its job is to report news from all aspects, and it has upheld this practice by following the principles and ethics of the media profession and reporting news without any discrimination, be it on political, social, crime, economics and foreign affairs issues. It also aims to always provide accurate and updated information.
2. In relation to reports that a Nation TV field reporter did not reveal her true identity when interviewing protesters, the editorial team has looked into the case and found that it is true.
The reporter said the Nation TV news team had previously been intimidated by protesters, which is why she wrongly made this decision.
The reporter has already been reprimanded and disciplinary action has been taken based on the company’s rules.
However, the report provided on television by this reporter is true and unbiased, in line with Nation TV’s objective to always present reports based on facts and always keep channels open for both sides to present their explanation on the issue at hand. This fact is evidenced by the fact that Nation TV has rarely faced lawsuits from any political party.
3. As for calls on social media, especially Twitter, to boycott all of Nation TV’s sponsors, Nation TV would like to clarify that none of the sponsors have ever played a part in the reporting of news.
Nation TV calls on all parties to stop linking product brands or corporate logos of its sponsors with news reports on the channel or use them as tools to express any opinions about the channel because such practice will cause unfair damage to their brands.
4. Nation TV also wishes to clarify that its news reports have been distorted online through the manipulation of old photographs and used to generate hate speech and political division in the country. Nation TV has already assigned its legal team to take action against those involved.
Nation TV thanks those who have supported the channel and promises to continue reporting based on professional ethics. Nation TV will also continue protecting the three pillars of Thailand – the country, religion and monarchy – which will allow us to continue maintaining our reputation as the main media outlet that reports unbiased news.
Best Regards,
Chatchai Pokogwai
