July sees major increase in flights as aviation authority eases ban

Air traffic volume in July exceeded 27,000 flights after the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) allowed airlines to operate flights across the nation, the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (Aerothai) said on Friday (August 21).

Previously, the CAAT had announced a temporary ban on flights from April 3 this year to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic.

After the Covid-19 situation was contained, the CAAT allowed airlines to operate flights across the nation in May and some international flights after permission was given in July, causing air traffic volume to increase.

Air traffic volume in July this year totalled 27,639 flights, comprising 3,711 international flights, 14,054 domestic flights, 1,991 flights across Thai airspace and 7,883 military and government flights, Aerothai said.
