Heavy rains in upper Thailand raise risks of flash floods

The Thailand Meteorological Department forecast on Monday (August 24) that an active monsoon trough lies across the upper areas of the North and the Northeast, while the southwest monsoon prevails across the Andaman Sea and Thailand.

Heavy rains are likely in the North, the Northeast, the Central and the East. People should beware of the severe conditions that may cause flash floods and water runoff, the department said.
The forecast for different parts of the country:
Bangkok and its vicinity: Cloudy with scattered thundershowers; minimum temperature 24-26 degrees Celsius, maximum 33-35°C; Southwesterly winds 10-25kph.
North: Very cloudy with fairly widespread thundershowers and isolated heavy rains in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Phrae, Nan, Uttaradit, Phitsanulok, Sukhothai, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit and Phetchabun provinces; minimum temperature 23-26°C, maximum 30-33°C; southwesterly winds 10-25kph.
Northeast: Very cloudy with fairly widespread thundershowers and isolated heavy rains in Loei, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nakhon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon, Chaiyaphum and Khon Kaen provinces; minimum temperature 24-25°C, maximum 30-34°C; southwesterly winds 10-25kph.
Central: Cloudy with scattered thundershowers and isolated heavy rains in Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Kanchanaburi and Ratchaburi provinces; minimum temperature 24-26°C, maximum 34-35°C; southwesterly winds 10-25kph.
East: Cloudy with scattered thundershowers and isolated heavy rains in Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat provinces; minimum temperature 24-27°C, maximum 33-35°C; southwesterly winds 15-30kph; waves about a metre high and 1-2 metres during thundershowers.
South (east coast): Cloudy with isolated thundershowers mostly in Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat provinces; minimum temperature 24-25°C, maximum 33-35°C; southwesterly winds 10-30kph; waves less than a metre high and one metre offshore.
South (west coast): Partly cloudy with isolated thundershowers mostly in Krabi, Trang and Satun provinces; minimum temperature 24-26°C, maximum 32-34°C; southwesterly winds 15-30kph; waves about a metre high and about two metres during thundershowers.
