Controversial rally at Thammasat breached pre-set conditions: university probe

A Thammasat University internal probe revealed that a political rally was permitted on August 10 with clear conditions, but the situation on the ground exceeded what professors, students and police had agreed to.

On Monday (August 31), the university announced its investigation result conducted by its committee about the political rally held on August 10, in which issues related to the monarchy were mentioned on stage.
The announcement said that the university allowed student organisers to hold the rally with conditions that were agreed to by the university, local police and organisers.
The organisers were told that the rally must confine itself to the activists' three key demands: dissolving Parliament, amending the Constitution and stop threatening critics of the government.
However, the speeches on reforming the monarchy exceeded the agreed limit, and both the university and police were in the dark about it.
