Yangon to restrict movement

Yangon to restrict movement

Movement in Yangon Region will be restricted, and those who fail to abide by the Covid-19-related regulations will be prosecuted, said State Counsellor, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

She mentioned this when addressing the people on 10 Septemer evening with reference to following the regulations laid down in order to curb the spread of COVID-19.

She said: “Stricter measures would be taken that these regulations are followed in markets. Action will be taken on those who fail by the regulations. She further said that laws are promulgated not to punish the people but to safeguard peace. There will not be peace if people are stricken with disease. That is the reason we have said that action will be taken under the Natural Disaster Law, because natural disaster law is much stronger than infectious disease law. Only by taking stricter measures will we be able to curb the spread of COVID-19.”

It can be said that the disease that started in Sittway has to certain extent been controlled because people abided by the regulations that had been laid down. Abiding by regulations it will be possible to curb the disease.

She further said that it is important to restrict movements in Yangon. There should not be crowding. There should be social distancing. These regulations are easy to abide by. Masks should be worn going out; use gloves where gloves are to be worn. If all people follow these regulations we can control the spread of this disease quickly.

It might seem that measures taken for Yangon Region are too strict, but following the regulations is for self-protection primarily, she said.

She also said that by following these stricter measures we will be able to curb the disease.

Difficulties arising due to these stricter measures must be borne with patience. The more we follow these regulations the earlier these regulations will be revoked. She said that she acknowledges that these regulations affect the livelihood of the people.

She said that the government is arranging to support people affected, and will continue to do so.

She also mentioned that certain townships in Yangon Region have been under Stay at Home order. There are many Positive cases in Thingangyun township as it spread from a Karaoke shop.

Although Naypyidaw is the administrative city Yangon is where the heart of the people is, she said.

She continued to say that they have reached a stage where the disease had been controlled, but not completely.

At the moment there are over 1,000 positive cases in Yangon Region, and Rakhine State is the second most.
