Four returnees, three foreigners test positive in quarantine

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported seven new cases in state quarantine over a 24-hour period on Sunday.

The new cases include a 49-year-old Thai crane operator, who had returned from Bahrain on August 30 and was in state quarantine in Chonburi. He was found to be infected on September 11.

Four people -- a Thai and three Indians -- had travelled from India on September 6. The 39-year-old Thai man was found positive during state quarantine in Chonburi on September 11, while the three Indians -- a 47-year-old woman, and two businesdmen aged 47 and 48 -- tested positive in an alternative state quarantine hotel in Bangkok.

Two Thai returnees -- a 27-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man -- had travelled from Australia on August 30 and tested positive on September 11 in Bangkok’s state quarantine.

The total number of confirmed cases in Thailand stood at 3,473 (535 in state quarantine), of whom 91 are in hospital and 3,312 have recovered and been discharged. The death toll remains unchanged at 58.

According to Worldometer, as of 10 am on Sunday the total number of confirmed cases globally increased to 28.9 million (increasing by 288,576 over a 24-hour period); 20.8 million have recovered, while 60,889 are in severe condition and 924,558 have died.

Thailand ranks 125th for most cases in the world, while the US has the most number with 6.67 million, followed by India 4.75 million, Brazil 4.31 million, Russia 1.05 million and Peru 722,832
