Malaysia deports 48 Thais caught working illegally

Malaysia deported 48 illegal Thai migrants to Songkhla province via the Sadao Customs House on Friday (September 18).

The 38 men and 10 women were caught working illegally on fishing boats, restaurants or massage parlours.

The Bukit Kayu Hitam checkpoint near Sadao, which is meant to remain closed until September 25, was used for the transfer.

Upon arrival, the Public Health Ministry had all of them undergo Covid-19 tests and had them quarantined.

Bukit Kayu Hitam border is in Kedah state, 18 kilometres from the Thai border, where more than 100 people tested positive for Covid-19 last week.
