Maximum security at Parliament for Thursday’s protest

Maximum security at Parliament for Thursday’s protest

Security at Parliament will be lifted to the maximum level on Wednesday ahead of a planned protest by pro-democracy demonstrators on Thursday.

Sorasak Pienvej, secretary-general of the House of Representatives, said on Tuesday that the House of Representatives would not prevent people from expressing their political opinions, and a suitable area will be prepared for protesters. Toilets and food stalls will also be provided for them, he added.
Maximum security will be in place 24 hours per day from Wednesday, the first day Parliament will consider a motion to amend the Constitution.
Asked if MPs had an escape route in case of emergencies, Sorasak said helicopters can land on the roof of Parliament to evacuate members if necessary. Police will also be deployed round the clock to patrol the Chao Phraya River.
