Yangon Quarantine Centers overloaded with suspect COVID-19 patients

YANGON- The quarantine centers situated in some townships that are hotspots for COVID-19 confirmed cases in Yangon Region are crowded with the suspected patients.

Plans are underway to open more quarantine centers in Yangon Region.

In Yangon Region, Thingangyun Township has the largest numbers of COVID-19 patients with 458 and 5 deaths. Currently, 

“Two quarantine centers are being opened in Thingangyun Township but the quarantine centers are nearly full of suspects. Now, a newly quarantine center is opened at the B.E.H.S in Thuwana. A center can house about 200 suspects. Moreover, we planned to open more quarantine centers at the No.2 B.E.H.S,” said MP Shwe Hla Win from Thingangyun Township.

Two quarantine centers newly opened in Hlaing Township are full of suspects. So, new places are being searched, says MP Kyaw Kyaw Tun from Hlaing Township.

Likewise, three quarantine centers which can house about 300 suspects are being opened in the compound of Government Technical Institute in Insein Township. Currently, there are 248 suspects at the quarantine centers, according to MP Wai Phyo Han from Insein Township.

“40 peoples are kept in quarantine at the center being opened in Zena Manaung Pagoda in Tharkayta Township. And then, a new quarantine center which can accept about 100 people is being prepared at the No.2 B.E.H.S in Tharkayta Township. Now, 60 suspects are being kept in there,” said MP Thet Htar Nwe Win from No.2 Constituency in Tharkayta Township.

Dr Saw Naing from South Oakkalapa Township also said that two quarantine centers in South Oakkalapa Township are now full of suspects. The centers can house 50 people.

Yangon Region has over 4,000 COVID-19 confirmed cases.
