Retailers show strong interest in govt’s ‘Let’s Go Halves’ scheme

More than 200,000 retailers have registered in the “Kon La Khreung” (Let’s Go Halves) economic stimulus package and the number is expected to rise before the scheme kicks off on October 23.

Government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said on Thursday that as of Tuesday, 210,010 retailers had registered for the scheme, and that 152,795 had been verified.

Of the 152,795 retailers, 127,852 are store owners and 24,943 stall operators. Meanwhile, 90,052 are food shops, 41,331 are Blue Flag stores, 4,991 One Tambon One Product (Otop) stores and 16,421 are ordinary shops.

Of the registrants, 34.8 per cent are in the Central region, 25 per cent in the Northeast and 17.7 per cent in the South. Meanwhile, 25,526 retailers or 12.2 per cent are in Bangkok, 7,105 or 3.4 per cent in Chiang Mai and 6,516 or 3.1 per cent in Songkhla.

Anucha said retailers can register via the "Kon La Khreung” website or at any Krungthai Bank branch nationwide.

“People can register on the website from October 16 and start using their privilege from October 23 to December 31. Their privilege will be cancelled if the first transaction is not made within 14 days,” he said.

Under the scheme, Thai nationals aged over 18 who do not hold a state welfare card will get a daily discount on food, drink and other necessities of up to Bt150, capped at Bt3,000 per person. Alcohol, tobacco and leisure activities are not covered.
