Police raid Progressive Movement's office, interrupt press conference

Police visited the Progressive Movement’s Bangkok headquarters on Friday afternoon, interrupting a press conference by the movement’s secretary general Piyabutr Saengkanokkul.

Uniformed officers intervened at 2.45 pm as Piyabutr was speaking at the Summit Tower about the state of emergency imposed on Thursday.

Police said the emergency decree prohibited the broadcast of news that could create fear, adding they were searching the office to check whether the Progressive Movement was violating the order.

At 3.02pm, Piyabutr challenged the officers to explain which laws allowed them to search the office. He also urged them to stand on the side of the people.

Police left the office at 3.10pm and said they had found no evidence of illegal activity.
