Brunei mourns loss of a Prince

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam attended the Royal Burial Ceremony of His Majesty’s son, Al-Marhum His Royal Highness Prince Haji ‘Abdul ‘Azim at the Royal Mausoleum yesterday.

Also in attendance were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Raabi’atul ‘Adawiyyah binti Pengiran Haji Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel; His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah and Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Zariah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Bini Hajah Faizah binti Dato Haji Nasir; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Norhayati binti Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess ‘Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Fadzilah Lubabul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Nor’ain; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Umi Kalthum Al-Islam; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Nasibah; and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Jefriah.

Prior to the ceremony, Their Majesties, as well as other members of the royal family proceeded to Baitul Rahmah, Istana Nurul Iman for a mass Jenazah prayer led by State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned.

Their Majesties, along with other members of the royal family, then proceeded to the Royal Burial Ceremony at the Royal Mausoleum.

At the Royal Burial Ceremony, the recitation of Tahlil and Doa was led by Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Setia Raja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Suhaili bin Haji Mohiddin. A recitation of Talqin was read by Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar.

Their Majesties, followed by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik, His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen, and His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel then poured the ayer asah-asahan (scented water) on the grave of Al-Marhum His Royal Highness Prince Haji ‘Abdul ‘Azim.

Also pouring the ayer asah-asahan was Yang Mulia Puan Hajah Mariam binti Haji Abdul Aziz, the mother of Al-Marhum His Royal Highness Prince Haji ‘Abdul ‘Azim.

Also present at the Royal Burial Ceremony was His Highness Tunku Idris Iskandar Al-Haj ibni Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Temenggong Johor, as personal representative of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Iskandar, Sultan Yang Di-Pertuan of Johor Darul Ta’zim.

Born on July 29, 1982, Al-Marhum His Royal Highness Prince Haji ‘Abdul ‘Azim passed away yesterday morning, 7th of Rabiulawal, 1442 Hijrah corresponding to October 24, at 10.08am, at the age of 38.

Al-Marhum His Royal Highness Prince Haji ‘Abdul ‘Azim received his early education at International School Brunei and went for further studies at the Raffles Institution, Republic of Singapore, and subsequently studied at Oxford Brookes University, United Kingdom.

In his lifetime, Al-Marhum His Royal Highness Prince Haji ‘Abdul ‘Azim was awarded the Royal Family Order of the Crown of Brunei (DKMB), the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Medal (PHBS), and the Golden Jubilee Medal (Gold Medal). Al-Marhum His Royal Highness Prince Haji ‘Abdul ‘Azim was known as a virtuous person who was active in various charities such as arts, youth and welfare, especially in helping persons with different disabilities and autism.

Earlier, His Majesty announced to the people and residents of Brunei Darussalam, with the fate of Allah the Almighty and with deepest sorrow, that His Royal Highness Prince Haji ‘Abdul ‘Azim passed away yesterday, 7th of Rabiulawal, 1442 Hijrah, corresponding to October 24 at 10.08am.

People and residents of Brunei Darussalam were required to hoist the national flag at half-mast (only on October 24), and mourn for seven days starting from yesterday.
