Police comb through home of popular ‘gambler’ after alleged shooting

The police searched the house of popular “gambler” Apirak Chat-arnon, who allegedly shot two people at a massage parlour in Bangkok’s Phasi Charoen district on Wednesday.

According to Apirak, his brother Khemtat had a conflict with people at a bar around 10.30pm on Tuesday. Angry over the dispute, more than 20 of them followed him and Khemtat to the sauna. Apirak claimed the group “fired at them over 60 times”. He allegedly shot back later.

He was arrested at 7am on Thursday, under a warrant granted by the Criminal Court, and police officers were later dispatched to his house in Phasi Charoen district.

Apirak was charged with attempted murder, possessing a weapon without permission, carrying a weapon in a public place without permission and firing a gun in a residential area after he allegedly shot at the men.

One of Apirak’s friends was also arrested for his alleged involvement in the case.

Police did not find any “illegal activity” at Apirak’s residence in an initial search. The 3-storey residence is being used as a fabric factory, which employs about ten people.
